NEW TO PARIS?

New cities can be confusing to navigate, so we’ve decided to help.

Below you’ll find links to city data and some of our favorite places in Paris. Hopefully this will help you love this city like we do!

GETTING TO KNOW PARIS

In 1844, George W. Wright, a generous merchant with a lot of land, donated fifty acres of land to the creation of Paris. The community was incorporated in 1845, and named Paris by one of Wright’s employees. By the time of the Civil War, Paris had gained 700 residents and a reputation for cattle and farming.

Railroads have always been the hub of Paris’ commercial advantages. Most of the major early railroads had run through Paris by 1910. This brought people and potential to the growing community, and in 1924, Paris established the Paris Junior College as another benefit to the city. In 1990, the college was decreed one of the oldest campuses in Texas.

In the 1950s, the population of Paris had risen to around 21,650 with 610 rated businesses.

Natural disaster shaped Parisian history in 1982 when a destructive tornado razed 1,500 homes, stole eight lives, and threw 3,000 people out onto the mercy of the cold streets. The business district spent the last leg of the twentieth century spending $7 million in repairs to the downtown area.

By 2000, Paris had recovered from the tornado damage. The population was 25,898. They were ready to take on the new millennia, and they have done so beautifully. Office Barn is proud to serve Paris offices, and we hope you will be proud to work with us.
